Design Researcher

Ella Galmot-Kerr

With a background that spans across France, the UK and Italy, Ella brings a natural intercultural perspective to her work. She graduated with First Class Honours from UCL’s interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences program, where she focused on the distinct but overlapping fields of International Law, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), and Italian language studies.

Ella is particularly interested in the tension between design and functionality in everyday life. She finds herself drawn to the "grey areas" where user experience meets complex systems, whether that functionality is legal, cultural, or linguistic. This curiosity recently led her into the world of hackathons. Last October, she developed a UK residency timeline tracker to help those navigating the data-intensive process of applying for British Citizenship.

Outside of her research and design work, Ella is a qualified TEFL instructor and enjoys the challenge of bridging communication gaps.

Most creative when…

Much of Ella’s creativity comes from documenting adventures through her camera, capturing fleeting moments, unusual light, and overlooked details. Her best ideas often emerge while slowing down enough to notice them.
